Ιπτάμενα φανάρια
Τα ιπτάμενα φανάρια πιστεύεται ότι δημιουργήθηκαν για πρώτη φορά στην Κίνα, τον 3ο αιώνα π.Χ. Πιθανότατα ο δημιουργός τους να ήταν ο στρατιωτικός Ζουγκ Λιάγκ, ο οποίος χρησιμοποίησε μια τέτοια κατασκευή για να στείλει μήνυμα βοήθειας όταν είχε περικυκλωθεί από εχθρικό στρατό. Κατασκευάζονται από χαρτί, με ένα άνοιγμα στο κάτω μέρος στο οποίο τοποθετούν εύφλεκτο υλικό. Η φλόγα θερμαίνει τον αέρα μέσα στο φανάρι, με αποτέλεσμα αυτό να πετά στον ουρανό. Ακόμη και σήμερα κατασκευάζονται και χρησιμοποιούνται σε εκδηλώσεις, όμως γίνονται αιτία πρόκλησης πυρκαγιών.
Sky Lanterns
It is believed that the first sky lanters were created in China in the 3rd century BCE, possibly by the military strategist Zhuge Liang. The first use of a sky lantern was to call for help, when the army of Liang was surrounded by enemy troops. The sky lanterns are made of paper, with an opening on the bottom side. A source of flame is placed on the bottom, heating the air inside the lantern, thus causing it to rise in the sky. They are still used today for entertainment purposes, however they can cause fires.
