Χένκελ HE 178
Το Heinkel 178 ήταν το πρώτο αεροπλάνο με μηχανή τζετ που κατασκευάστηκε ποτέ. Σε αντίθεση με τα αεροπλάνα με έλικα, το Heinkel μπορούσε να πετάξει με τη βοήθεια αερίων που έσπρωχναν το αεροπλάνο με μεγάλη ταχύτητα και το κρατούσαν στον αέρα. Η πρώτη του πτήση έγινε το 1939, και είχε διάρκεια μόλις 6 λεπτά. Αργότερα βελτιώθηκε ο σχεδιασμός του και οδήγησε στη δημιουργία ενός νέου αεροπλάνου, του HE 280 με δύο κινητήρες.
Heinkel HE 178
The HE 178 was the first jet engine plane to be tested in flight. Contrary to propeller based aircraft of its time, the HE 178 could fly using the jet engine that provides thrust during flight. Its first test flight had a duration of just 6 minutes and was conducted in 1939. Later on, significant improvements to its design were made, including the addition of a second jet engine, leading to the development of the more advanced HE 280.
